What are the Five Filaments? | Spiral Syllabus

The Five Filaments

Five Filaments (5F) is a fascia-forward movement rubric grounded in rotationally coupled motion—the understanding that no joint moves in isolation.

Drawing on the latest research in hyaluronan (HA), we use the 5F to work with the body's inner ocean: the fluidic, water-infused bioelectric signaling matrix.

The Five Filaments: who is it for?

The Five Filaments rubric is non-denominational and can be applied across movement disciplines. The 5F Specialist Training is open to anyone with a prior qualification as a movement professional. While the framework is not tied to any single method, it will feel particularly familiar to those working in yoga and bodyweight-based practices.

This training is suited to practitioners who are ready to re-examine how they understand anatomy, refine their perceptual skills, and develop a more integrated approach to movement. The emphasis is on deepening professional competence and clarity in how you work with clients, rather than replacing your existing modality.

This training will best serve you if:

  • You are deeply curious about new paradigm anatomy, holistic/wholistic physiology and fascia.
  • You have a previous movement or therapy qualification and/or you love to move.
  • You are a self-initiated lifelong learner passionate about movement as healing.
  • You would like a strong anatomical foundation and evidence-based rationale for your offering.

This training is not for you if...

  • You are not interested in renewing your anatomy from a fascia-focused perspective.
  • You are content with the nuts-and-bolts model of classical biomechanics.
  • You are attached exclusively to a predefined system of movement.
  • You prefer an entirely didactic approach.

The Five Filaments approach to

Anatomy

The Five Filaments approach to anatomy invites you into a curriculum where learning is a lived, creative process. The foundations of 5FS are rooted in anatomy, where you are invited to learn at your own pace and explore anatomy body painting, model-making, and visual/kineasthetic methods.
